The Oberheim DPX-1 is a rack mount hybrid (analog/digital) sample player introduced in 1987. It has 8 voices of polyphony and operates at 12-bit/variable sample rate resolution. It can read and play samples (with some limitations) created for the E-Mu Emulator II, Ensoniq Mirage, Akai S900, and Sequential Prophet 2000 samplers.
The DPX uses the same analog low-pass filter (SSM2045) as the Emulator II, similar to the Curtis filters used by the Mirage (CEM3328) and Prophet 2000 (CEM3379). While the DPX adjusts its sampling rate to match the format of the original sampler, it can raise its filter cutoff to give samples a brighter tone. The HDX-20 Music Storage System is a rare optional accessory for the DPX that expanded its storage to 20MB via SCSI.
This page contains sample libraries for the DPX-1 in IMG/DPX format for floppy drives, and HFE format for HxC floppy emulators. All archives are complete collections, checked and labeled for accuracy.
The DPX-1 shipped with two factory sound disks, "Sound A" and "Sound B."

The HxC floppy emulator is compatible with the DPX-1, and is an essential upgrade to its floppy disk drive:
The DPX-1 uses a Phihong PSA-532BU power supply (as does the Linn 9000) whose Rifa capacitors are prone to cracking and catching fire. This is a common problem, and can be fixed and prevented by re-capping the power supply. Andrei Kudryavsev has repaired many DPX-1's and is very familiar with this repair:
